Olympic Indoor is very pleased to announce the addition of our new Assistant Manager, Kellie Wurtzman! Althought she wasn't super excited about talking about herself, I managed to get Kellie to tell me a little about her new position as well as her past work experience.
In your new role as assistant manager, what will you do?
Anything the club needs me to! Honestly I'm just excited to join the team, learn the business and take on any challenges that come my way. My goal will be to look for improvements in our processes and systems to continue to improve the member experience at every interaction with the club.
How did you get involved in playing tennis?
I didn’t start playing until a little over 10 years ago (I never played ball sports growing up – I was a runner). Hence the main issue with my serve – the toss! I can’t stand the gym and was looking for something I could do to get a good workout but would also have a commitment to have to go. With tennis I got both – plus a sport I have fallen in love with!
How long have you been playing at Olympic?
About 8 years!
Tell me a little about what you’re looking forward to at Olympic:
Love the club and the atmosphere excited to work directly with the staff and the members. I am always about continuous improvement and innovation and I hope to be able to work with the Olympic team and members to continue to make Olympic the best club in the city!
What is your work background?
I started working in retail in the Victoria’s Secret corporate office out of College – I never intended a career in retail but from this first experience fell in love with it – working with the customers and associates and the constant challenges that a fast paced retail environment. I have worked for Victoria’s Secret, Frederick’s of Hollywood, Virgin Megastores and Sunglass Hut.
Outside of tennis and working, what do you like to do?
Love to cook and try out new recipes. Travel. Spend time with my family – anything my girls like to do! I used to be a big pottery collector – I still am but really not a lot of time for it now. I love the feel of old pottery – McCoy is my favorite and I have various pieces all over the house.
Your husband, Marc, is a teaching pro at Olympic. How do you guys feel about both working at the same place?
We are excited for me to be local and be able to be working together!
Tell me something about yourself that we might not know.
I am also working on starting a new business in Clintonville. Planning to open late Summer on North High Street. It's called Bishops. Bishops is a co-ed barbershop concept new to the Columbus market based out of Portland, Oregon. Bishops focuses on individuality and expressing your inner self – we are very excited to bring it to Columbus.
Tell me about your background… where did you grow up? Where did you go to college? Where else have you lived?
I grew up here in Columbus – went to Westerville North High School. Went to Ohio University (go Bobcats!) and have an MBA from The Ohio State University. I spent 5 years in southern CA and then moved back to Columbus to work at Victoria’s Secret for the second time.
